Konami filed a trademark application last week for videogame software titled Contra Run and Gun.

Spotted by NeoGAF user “Rösti,” the sighting lends itself to rumors and tea sings of a new Contra that stretch back to E3 2011. Word on the street was that Castlevania developers MercurySteam were involved with a Contra-related project, but given the success of Lords of Shadow and their work on the sequel, it would seem the developer is too busy to be building a new Contra.

There’ve been no sightings or mention of Contra Run and Gun at this year’s E3.

So, speculation time: iOS title? Downloadable game for PSN, XBLA? An actual full-blown full release? I’m guessing the former, at best. That is, PSN/XBLA.
