Konami Requests Skullgirls be Removed from PSN, XBLA

Following Skullgirls‘ publisher Autumn Games’ decision to end its business deal with Konami, the company has requested the removal of the game from the PlayStation Network by December 17 and Xbox Live Arcade by December 31.

Skullgirls Design Director Mike Zaimont announced the news during a recent livestream event. During the broadcast, Zaimont revealed that Konami had submitted the request to Sony without informing developer Lab Zero Games. Skullgirls fans shouldn’t worry though as the team is working on a self-published build of the game and hopes to have it out by the end of the year, so long as they can submit the build to Sony’s QA team before they go home for the holidays.

“If it doesn’t [get approved], Skullgirls is going to disappear until everybody comes back from winter break,” Zaimont said.

Zaimont added that the new Xbox Live Arcade version of the game will be published by Marvelous AQL. However, ownership of the game won’t transfer from Konami to Marvelous until December 31, the same day as the deadline, so the new publisher may be unable to submit a build to Microsoft before then.

If neither of the new submissions make it through certification before the end of year Skullgirls will disappear from both stores until the QA teams return from the holiday break. The developer is unsure if players will still be able to play their original copies of the game online after the deadline dates.
