Mario Tennis Aces releases soon on the Nintendo Switch, but players can look forward to getting even more content in the game after launch.
As Nintendo revealed today in a post on Twitter, Koopa Troopa and Blooper will be appearing in the game as playable characters in August and September respectively, weeks after the game’s original launch. Both characters will be available to play for free.

There’s a small twist, however—any players who take part in online tournaments in the game will be able to get access to the characters early. Players who venture into online tournaments will be able to get access to Koopa Troopa in July and Blooper in August.
It seems clear from this that Nintendo hopes to incentivize online play, bringing more people into the Mario Tennis Aces competitive scene. It may also be a subtle push to get people to subscribe to the new Nintendo Switch Online service, which launches in September. That’s after Koopa Troopa and Blooper arrive, but players who have been enjoying online matches will need to subscribe in order to keep playing.
Mario Tennis Aces launches on June 22nd, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
