As part of the opening of its official site, we now know that La-Mulana EX will be coming to Vitas all across North America at the beginning of next year.
January 2015, to be specific—though we still don’t know an exact date.
La-Mulana was the brainchild of Japanese creator Takumi Naramura, who crafted the game to be an homage to MSX games from the 80’s. (The MSX was a line of Microsoft computers that ended up being popular in Naramura’s home country of Japan.) A side-scrolling adventure platform, La-Mulana gained a following both in Japan and later worldwide (thanks to an English patch), and was known for its high level of challenge and difficulty.
La-Mulana EX brings new life to the game as it nears its 10th birthday, offer enhanced visuals, revised bosses and puzzles, an “extensive Monster Bestiary,” trophies, online rankings, and more.
At the same time, Nakamura is also hard at work on the game’s official sequel, La-Mulana 2. To read more about what went into the development of that game—and why its creator took to Kickstarter to fund the project—you can read my feature story here.
