The second installment of dev diaries focused on the creation of Disney Infinity explores the Toy Box.

The Toy Box was a feature first developed by Avalanche Software as a mode for Toy Story 3: The Video Game. It allowed players to interact with the characters as a child would were they real toys: with total abandon to rules and limitations. It’s totally imagination driven, and one of the more notable features of the game.

Disney Infinity expands upon that by basing the idea game around the idea of limitless imagination and interaction between the various Disney intellectual properties. Characters from Cars pal around with Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, perhaps visited by Mr. Incredible—and so on and so forth.

Disney Infinity opens the lid on the toy box for Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and 3DS August 18 in North America, August 20 in Europe.
