A new trailer for Deck 13 and CI Games’ upcoming action-RPG Lords of the Fallen teases a challenge level not dissimilar to Dark Souls.

The video (seen above) shows a heavily armored, fiery armed bruiser called the Champion Lord squaring off against the player-character in a sealed arena environment. Repeatedly, the Champion Lord renders the customizable hero character lifeless, showcasing how victory in Lords of the Fallen—not unlike many boss battles in Dark Souls—come from the lessons learned in death.

I suppose, though, that by gleaning some of the tactics used to best the Champion Lord toward the end of the video, players will be better equipped to go toe-to-toe with the beast when the Bandai Namco–published action-RPG hits shelves.

Lords of the Fallen is slated to launch on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year.
