Payday 2‘s eleventh update patch, which went live this past Friday, overhauls the heist game’s Crime.net economy, developer Overkill Software revealed in a post on Steam.
“After looking at massive amounts of data and collecting player feedback we have implemented and tested a new economy system,” reads the post. “Each contract now has reward dependant on the mission specifics. Some contract amounts can seem low but the REAL value is in stealing the LOOT BAGS.”
An example of this, according to the poset, is slinging coke for in-game mission assigner Hector. The more bags of coke obtained, the bigger the reward. But that’s just for that mission. In the two-day Big Oil mission, completion becomes the priority, so getting the engine to the helicopter and successfully escaping is what will net a sizable contract pay.
Overkill also rebalanced Crime.net so that players can choose to play for experience points, money, or a little of both.
In addition to these Crime.net-centric refinements, the nearly gig-big Update #11 introduces improved killer instinct for AI teammates, making then more aggressive and more likely to stay alive even on the Overkill difficulty setting (which is also “much harder” now), better walking and running animations for police, and more blinding flashbangs for SWAT soldiers.

Payday 2 is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. As I point out in my review, even before all these wonderful-sounding improvements, Overkill’s Heat-inspired first-person heister is all kinds of addictive.
