Latest Rocksteady Superman leak looks amazing—but we're not convinced

Even if the latest leak about the rumored Rocksteady-developed Superman game turns out to be fake, it at least gets an “A” for effort.

The latest entry in the never-ending saga of supposed leaks about Rocksteady’s (still unconfirmed) Superman game includes what appears to be an image of the game’s title screen or a still from an upcoming E3 reveal trailer. The image, posted to 4Chan, features Superman’s recognizable “S” as well as the title Superman: World’s Finest.

The supposed leak also goes on to repeat previously reported details about the game, like that Brainiac will function as the game’s main villain. It also suggests that the game will debut during Microsoft’s press conference on Sunday, June 10th.

However, we’re not entirely convinced that this leak is real. First of all, the colon after “Superman” in the title is way too far away from the rest of the word. Really, the fact that there’s a colon at all gives us pause, considering contemporary graphic design would generally just eliminate the colon in this situation altogether.

Most telling, however, as Screen Rant points out, is that the Superman “S” used here is exactly the same one used for Superman’s costume in Man of Steel. It seems highly unlikely that Rocksteady would use the same S unless it was a direct adaptation or spin-off from the current film version of Superman. Besides, we’re still dedicated to the theory that the S on the cake that Rocksteady sent NetherRealm Studios will be the logo in the Batman: Arkham studio’s—we repeat, unconfirmed—Superman game.

“World’s Finest” is also a reference to a DC comics series that starred both Superman and Batman. It seems unlikely that Rocksteady would also name its Superman game after a comic that featured both characters if only one of them was playable.

Even if this leak is fake (which it probably is), we still wouldn’t be surprised if Rocksteady revealed a new game at E3 2018. It’s been a couple of years since the studio released a proper, non-VR game, and since WB Games is still its publisher, a Superman game makes about as much sense as anything else.

We're still betting on a Rocksteady Superman game, but this probably isn't what it will be called.
