Nintendo has released a new trailer for Super Mario 3D World—a Mario game about a princess other than Peach in need of rescue after being kidnapped by Bowser—that reveals some of the new power-ups and abilities.
In addition to classic power ups such as the Tanooki Suit, the Propeller Block, and the Boomerang Suit and known new ones like the Cat Suit, there’s also a new Cherry power-up that duplicates Mario, with new multiples spawning when he grabs additional Cherry power-ups and a Goomba disguise for stealthy Goomba evasion. The video reveals that players will be able to pick up an assortment of environmental objects, including bombs, baseballs, potted Piranha Plants, and special types of cannon blocks that can be worn for portable canon fire.
The video also highlights the differences in how each of the four playable characters—Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad—play, evoking memories of Super Mario Bros. 2 at the sight of Peach gently floating down from her jumps.
Announced during the company’s E3 2013 Nintendo Direct, Super Mario 3D World is the console continuation of the Super Mario 3D Land handheld series, which began with Super Mario Land for Game Boy in 1989 and pivoted to 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land in 2011.
Super Mario 3D World launches exclusively for Wii U on November 22 in North America, November 29 in Europe.
