Latest Xbox One backward compatible game takes to the skies

The Ace Combat series is looking to make a major comeback in a few days with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. It’s been over 11 years since we’ve gotten a numbered Ace Combat sequel, and Xbox One is giving fans a chance to refresh with its latest backward compatible title.

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation is now backward compatible on Xbox One. The game offers 15 missions set during a fictional war between Emmeria and Estovakia and features actual, licensed aircraft equipped with a ton of different weapons for aerial and air-to-ground combat. In other words, it’s an Ace Combat game.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Ace Combat 6 has several multiplayer modes as well, one of which is Battle Royale. There’s also Co-op Battle, which lets up to four players team up in two single-player missions.

The best part of it going backward compatible now is that, if you preorder or purchase Ace Combat 7, you’ll get Ace Combat 6 for free. This is a limited-time bonus, so make sure you order Ace Combat 7 before it’s too late.

Ace Combat 7 recently revealed its “Open Fire,” prog rock-y launch trailer, showing off how 11 years between main numbered releases can do wonders for a series’ graphics. The game will launch with two multiplayer modes and a ton of licensed fighter jets, as you might expect from an Ace Combat title.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown launches for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 18th, with a PC version to follow soon after on February 1st.
