The Legend of Zelda

The latest screenshot of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might contain a glimpse of a returning character: the traveling salesman Beedle.

Beedle first appeared in Wind Waker, manning a traveling ship and offering up everything from Hyoi Pears to Bombs and bait. He made a cameo appearance in The Minish Cap, and a descendant of his with the same name shows up with an airship in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Beedle played an even more prominent role in Skyward Sword, with his airship shop, a small island, and a sidequest of his own.

Now, it seems the traveling merchant may have another role to play in Breath of the Wild. One of the latest screenshots Nintendo’s released depicts a massive tent with a horse-like structure, with horses underneath—presumably some sort of business. And, as first spotted by YouTube channel GameXplain, a person walking towards the structure bears a beetle-shaped pack and has an appearance that could very well be this game’s incarnation of the salesman.

It’s hard to make a definite call since Beedle’s face and clothes aren’t very clear in the picture, but Nintendo loves its returning characters. Given that Breath of the Wild draws so definitely on older games—Spectacle Rock, for example, gets a modern incarnation—it seems pretty likely that this mystery man could indeed be Beedle.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn’t have a release date yet, but the latest rumors say it’ll be out in March alongside the Nintendo Switch. We’ll likely find out more during Nintendo’s next big presentation on January 12th.
