Riot Games has revealed just how popular its free-to-play MOBA League of Legends has become over the last year.

Riot revealed on its website that League of Legends now averages 27 million players per day, over double the 12 million average reported in October 2012. When taken to a monthly average that number increases to around 67 million players. During peak play times each day the average concurrent players is around 7.5 million, the developer revealed.

The recent League of Legends Season 3 World Championships was watched by 32 million people, making it the most watched eSports event in history.
