Royce Gracie, considered by many to be one of the most influential MMA fighters of the past 20 years, has been added to the EA Sports UFC roster as a special unlock, EA Sports announced.
By beating the game’s Career Mode on Pro difficulty or higher, players will be able to use Gracie in the Octagon. For those too impatient to unlock the legend, however, EA is also offering him as a pre-order bonus at GameStop/EB Games.
Gracie’s influences on MMA are numerous, including the introduction and popularization of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a martial arts technique co-developed by his father and uncle, in the sport. He also helped put UFC on the map when he won and dominated three of the first four events the organization held. During this span he set a record that still stands today—11 straight submission victories.
Other records that Gracie holds include participating in the longest recorded fight in MMA history (90 minutes) back when he fought and lost to Kazushi Sakuraba as a member of PRIDE Fighting Championships and being member of the inaugural UFC Hall of Fame class back in 2003 along with long-time rival Ken Shamrock.
Gracie is the second “legendary” figure to join the game’s roster following the reveal of Bruce Lee as a playable combatant earlier this month.
EA Sports UFC launches on Xbox One and PS4 June 17.
