LG Says That Dedicated Handhelds Are ‘Over’
Posted on July 7, 2011 AT 02:43pm

South Korean technology company LG isn’t buying into the idea of the 3DS or the PS Vita. Instead, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile, Dr. Jong-seok Park, had this to say about handheld gaming systems:
“The era of dedicated handheld gaming platform is over. Today’s smartphones have the horsepower to compete with the best portable gaming devices and LG Optimus 3D is our proof. We think 3D is the natural next step in portable entertainment and LG is eager to throw its hat in the ring with the Optimus 3D and Gameloft’s ‘must-be-seen-to-be-believed’ titles.”
Interestingly, Computer and Video Games, the website who first reported about this comment, also updated their story to say that an updated version of the LG release removed all reference to handheld gaming devices. Maybe a case of “I wish I hadn’t said that publicly”?
