Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Will Keep Players Busy for Roughly 50 Hours

Posted on October 22, 2013 AT 11:54am

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII boasts over 50 hours of content, gameplay director Yuji Abe informed IGN during a recent interview.

Concern over the game’s length surfaced once news that its narrative is contained within a set 13-day period. According to Abe, 24 hours “within the game world” is closer to two or three hours real-time. He also pointed out that the clock pauses when speaking to NPCs, pulling open the menu, or customizing your character.

“It isn’t quite as short as you’d think,” Abe told IGN. “Overall, when I did the test plays during the development period, I played through from start to finish trying to see almost all of the aspects of the game and it took roughly about 50 hours.”

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII launches this November in Japan, February 11 in North America. EGM recently spoke with gameplay director Yuji Abe as well as producer Yoshinori Kitase about how Square Enix approached solo-oriented battles in Lightning Returns and what this series-first trilogy represents for the future of the franchise.
