THE BUZZ: Sony has officially announced LittleBigPlanet Karting and has released a debut trailer.

The game is a collaboration between Media Molecule and United Front Games, and is due out for PlayStation 3 later this year.

“With LBP’s powerful and diverse toolset in their capable hands, LittleBigPlanet Karting is sure to be an adventure that both LBP fans and kart racing fans alike will enjoy!” reads a message from media Molecule on the PlayStation Blog.

“We are very eager to see what you think of this union and especially excited to see what happens now that you have a 3D environment to create in! It’s the start of a whole new LBP world!”

United Front Games senior producer James Grieve added, “Our goal with LBP Karting has been fairly simple – provide a fast-paced experience that captures the best of classic Karting gameplay, married with the unbridled creativity of LBP. This new adventure will be accessible to players of all ages and have all of the variety necessary to satisfy both the hardcore and more casual players.”

EGM’s TAKE: If you’ve ever wanted to take your LittleBigPlanet creative skills and transfer them onto a racetrack then you are certainly in luck. The plan is to have the extensive creative tools present in the previous games available to be used on tracks and karts. An added bonus is the fact that now players won’t be stuck on a 2D plane for creation, they will have a whole 3D environment to work their magic in. What will the community create with this new freedom? We look forward to finding out.
