London 2012

Hosting the Olympics in London’s own backyard gave the redundantly-titled London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games an extremely healthy shot in the arm, as sales of the sports game rocketed to the top of the U.K. charts last week. Even Mario and Sonic got into the action, as their own game got the Olympics sales bump, too.

According to music, video, and software tracking company Chart Track, London 2012: The Official Video Game retook the #1 position on the software sales chart, replacing LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

Ever since debuting at the #4 spot since it release in the last week of June, Olympic fever has apparently done quite well for the Sega-published game, as it’s stayed in the top 3 ever since. Not too shabby.

Sega’s even double-dipped into the Olympic Games’ hype train with Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, which has had a total resurge on the U.K. sales charts, despite being released there back in February.

On a different note—Holy Crap! Can you believe Batman: Arkham City and Skyrim are still selling this well? Talk about staying power. Of course, those two are “Game of the Year” contenders, so maybe it’s not so shocking.
