Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be MercuryStream’s last Castlevania project, producer Dave Cox told Destructoid at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend.

“Nobody on the team ever felt like we owned Castlevania,” Cox told Destructoid. “We always felt it was our responsibility now but it wouldn’t be ours forever. Let’s do what we’re going to do, tell our story and move on.

“So we’ve told Japan headquarters that this is the last one for us … there’s nothing worse than when somebody’s got something to say, and when they’ve said it, they just keep talking.”

As far as Cox is concerned, MercurySteam has “a beginning and end … a cool ending and a cool story” with Lords of Shadow 2, and upon completion feels it’s time for the studio to pass the proverbial torch.

“Maybe it will be a young producer in the company looking for his first break,” said Cox. “I think you’ve got to bring in fresh blood.”

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is slated for release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this winter.
