Football fans still love the Madden franchise as much as ever, as the latest release in the dominant series has proved to be EA Sports’ most successful launch. According to the publisher, Madden NFL 13 already broke a million in sales.
Specifically, it moved 1.65 million copies in its first week on store shelves, which is a franchise record according to EA.
In their recent press release, EA is also very careful to say that this launch week is best the they’ve had amongst “HD consoles,” which makes a fair bit of sense, if you remember your history.
Although the numbers are impressive, Madden NFL ’07 had a more impressive opening week. Back in the last console generation, it sold over 2 million copies in seven days across eight platforms (including the Xbox and Xbox 360).
Still, this year’s Madden does have an untouchable record of its own, with over 1.4 million players going online with it during the game’s initial seven day stretch.
Just to recap: the sky remains blue, water is still wet, the Spider-Man 3 movie still sucks, and people still enjoy Madden.
