With the country’s single most watched televised event looming just six days away, the folks over at EA Sports have run their annual Madden NFL simulation and declared the Denver Broncos the winners of Super Bowl XLVIII.
According to the Madden NFL 25 simulation, this will be the first Super Bowl to go into overtime. The simulation also predicts that Peyton Manning will be the game’s MVP as he leads his team to a 31-28 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
If the Broncos do indeed win on Sunday, it will be the third Super Bowl victory in their franchise history (Denver won Super Bowls 32 and 33), and the second for Manning (he won Super Bowl 41 with the Colts). If the Seahawks pull the upset, it will be their first Super Bowl win.
While it should be noted that Madden has been correct on eight of their last ten predictions, the analysis failed to note whether or not Percy Harvin, Seattle’s big threat wide receiver, has any impact on the game after just being declared active and ready to play.
Harvin has played in only two games all year, but has been cleared as healthy enough for the big game. He would give Seattle’s offense an entirely different look that the Broncos might not be ready for. Broncos’ cornerback Champ Bailey even admits he’s “a dangerous man,” in reference to Harvin’s big play abilities.
In terms of our personal picks, we here at EGM are a divided office. I believe the Seahawks are the better team in this classic match-up of new school offense vs. old school defense and that Peyton won’t be able to overcome Seattle’s stifling secondary, or the elements. Also, Chris likes the look of the “birdfaces” and Matthew likes the name “Seahawks.”
Marc (a huge Broncos fan) and Andrew, on the other hand, believe Denver should win easily, especially if they avoid the turnovers the Madden prediction made. Meanwhile, Eric loves Peyton because Omaha–Peyton’s favorite shout at the line of scrimmage–is his hometown and Josh likes “horsies.”
Madden 25 is currently available on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, iOS, and Android devices.
