Majority of Criterion to Become Ghost Games U.K., Only 15 to Remain at Studio

Posted on September 16, 2013 AT 10:56am

The majority of Criterion Games’ crew will become Ghost Games U.K upon completion of Need for Speed: Rivals, Criterion creative director Alex Ward revealed in a series of Tweets this past Friday.

According to Ward, most of Criterion was “committed to helping on Rivals,” but the few that chose not to began work on a new IP unrelated to Need for Speed. In the wake of the some 60-65 employees who will form Ghost Games U.K., Criterion is left only with 15 developers. But Ward says this is the way the studio wants it.

“We would rather work on a small team all focused on gameplay rather than a huge team split by discipline,” he wrote in a tweet.

In August, Ghost Games head Marcus Nilsson revealed that the studio would be taking complete control of the Need for Speed franchise.

Need for Speed: Rivals launches on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 November 19 in North America and Europe. Its next-gen versions will launch alongside the PS4 and Xbox One November 15 (November 29 in Europe) and November 22 respectively.
