THE BUZZ: For his upcoming outing—Super Mario 3D Land—Nintendo’s classic hero is getting a little help from down under.
In this image nabbed by Nintendo World Report, we see Mario donning a new blue-themed boomerang suit as a part of this power up. NWR points out that boomerangs as a weapon first appeared via the Boomerang Bros. in Super Mario Bros. 3, and a blue boomerang was available as an item via the e-Reader levels for Super Mario Advance 4.
As well, here’s a huge batch of new screenshots from Super Mario 3D Land, showing a variety of elements from the game (along with sequenced shots to show how certain things will play out in action).
EGM’s TAKE: After some of the crazier suits from Super Mario Galaxy 2, it’s nice to see a return to a simpler, more classic Mario-style power up like this.
As for the screenshots, I really do need to say one thing—can we stop having Peach kidnapped? Please? How the ruler of a kingdom has such amazingly terrible security for so many years just baffles me, and the motivation for saving her from Bowser is long gone. Either she enjoys getting kidnapped just to put Mario through hell over and over, or she’s so dumb that she’s unfit to rule over a kingdom of subjects.
