Mario Kart 8 gets onscreen map option as part of August 27th update

Posted on August 6, 2014 AT 04:30pm

Mario Kart 8 generally garnered a pretty positive reception, but one negative that just about everyone pointed out was the baffling decision to only include a map on the Wii U GamePad and not on the main screen. The onscreen map had been part of every Mario Kart entry since the series’ 1992 debut, so it didn’t seem to make much sense that it wasn’t an option this time around.

Come August 27th, however, that won’t be an issue anymore. As part of a substantial update that day, Nintendo is adding main-screen map option to the game.

Along with the new onscreen map, the new update will also include special Mercedes-Benz DLC, including the option to race with the modern GLA compact SUV, the W25 Silver Arrow from the 1930s, and the 300 SL Roadster from the ’50s. If you’re wondering how experienced karters like Wario, Princess Peach, and Bowser will look behind the wheel of some classic German engineering, take a look at the video below.
