Mario Kart 8 TV spots highlight new items and anti-gravity tracks

Posted on May 14, 2014 AT 10:50am

Three new Mario Kart 8 TV spots highlight a few of the new features and items in Mario’s eighth rubber-burning, turtle-shell tossing excursion.

The Super Horn (seen above), destroys items as they reach your proximity, which is especially useful to the leading driver, since the Super Horn can destroy the usually unstoppable blue Spiny Shells that make a beeline for the character in first place.

Seen in the videos embedded below are the Boomerang Flower, which grants a driver three uses of a boomerang that can be thrown forward or back to spin out drivers, and a ivdeo highlighting the game’s anti-gravity tracks that allow the karts to ride along walls or along ceilings.

Other items new to Mario Kart 8 include the Piranha Plant, which protects your kart by devouring any incoming items or chomping nearby drivers to spin them out, and the Crazy 8, a ring of eight items that the player can use defensively like a shield but also to unleash a whole wave of item-based chaos upon other drivers.

Joining the Mushroom Kingdom’s plumber-cum-protector in his four-wheeled extracurricular activities for the first time in Mario Kart 8 are Baby Rosalina, and all seven ofBowser’s offspring, the Koopalings.

Mario Kart 8 launches in North America and Europe in just over two weeks, on May 30.
