Mario Tennis

Mario Tennis Aces will have a day-one download that’s necessary to unlock online tournaments.

The 2 GB download should appear when players first start up the game. After the download, Tournament modes will be split into online and offline matches. Tournaments will also be divided into Standard Class, a regular tournament with the regular rules, and Simple Class, which lets players turn off the energy meter.

A short tournament will be held in June, though since the game releases on the 22nd of the month, it won’t run for the regular length of a tournament. The first full-length tournament will start in July, and players who participate will be able to access Koopa Troopa earlier than players who stay offline. A second tournament in August will let players unlock Blooper early. It seems likely that more characters will become available in future months with future tournaments.

Any players who choose not to participate in online tournaments will still be able to unlock these characters. They will appear approximately one month later.

Mario Tennis Aces is close to release, making this download a surprise. The game launches on Friday, June 22nd, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
