Charles Martinet, the famous voice actor for Nintendo’s mustachioed mascot, is apparently a big fan of Super Mario Sunshine—and it seems he wouldn’t mind a sequel to that title above most others. If Nintendo’s developers have been thinking along the same lines, that would be an interesting addition to the Wii U or 3DS lineup.
Ever since Mario made the jump to 3D platforming, only the Super Mario Galaxy games have warranted the sequel treatment so far, as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine were the only “core” Mario titles of their respective consoles.
However, the F.L.U.D.D. water backpack has still made plenty of appearances since Super Mario Sunshine, almost becoming its own character in the process.
Most players have seen the F.L.U.D.D. in action here and there throughout the years, most commonly as a weapon for Mario in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and as a mini-game tool in New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis.
It’s also a useable item in the much more obscure arcade game Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, which almost makes one wonder how the F.L.U.D.D. didn’t make an appearance in Mario Kart 7‘s armory.
Check out the brief clip below, spotted by MyNintendoNews, as an autograph-seeking fan chats briefly with Martinet at the San Diego Comic-Con. It’s almost weird to hear his normal voice, though—I’ve only heard him in person doing his Mario impression.
