Red 5 Studios co-founder Mark Kern, best known for his work as as team lead on World of Warcraft is no longer CEO at the company, representatives from the studio have confirmed.
James Macauley, Red 5’s vice president of development, is serving as acting CEO in Kern’s place. According to a Red 5 employee who contacted The Escapist, Kern was voted out as CEO over his leadership style, describing it as “erratic, impulsive, and very disruptive—basically the worst thing for a flat organization.”
The shakeup at Red 5 occurred yesterday, December 19. News about Kern’s removal from his position as CEO broke earlier today when Game Front obtained an internal email sent by Macauley announcing the change to employees.
Kern co-founded Red 5 Studios in 2005 along with former World of Warcraft art director William Petras and Taewon Yun, who oversaw Blizzard’s Korean operation. While at Blizzard, Kern was involved with Diablo II, StarCraft, and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.
Firefall is a free-to-play open-world MMO shooter currently in open beta.
