THE BUZZ: The first details regarding Max Payne 3’s multiplayer component have been revealed online, and it appears that Rockstar is finally trying to bring story to multiplayer in an innovative way.

The multiplayer mode will be known as Gang Wars and sees players partake in an ever shifting and changing set of dynamic events. For example a drug deal goes bad and the one team is tasked with getting back to the safe house with the package while the other team has to prevent this. Now usually at the end of the round the players will just swap sides and play the same event again, but in Max Payne 3 the event will move similar to single-player story progression, and a new scenario must be played out. This will continue until the game ends. The objectives and tasks will be explained by Max Payne and comic strips.

A perk system will also be implemented known as “Bursts,” which include bullet time as well as other cool enhancements. One known as Paranoia makes an opponent see his team mates as the enemy for a short period of time, and at its most effective will allow him to kill his own team.

EGM’s TAKE: It seems that Rockstar is trying something quite innovative with multiplayer in Max Payne 3. Hopefully it plays out come launch.
