EA’s upcoming shooter Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be a little fatter on Xbox 360 than the PS3 version. Its content is just far too large to be crammed into one DVD disc, and instead will ship on two of them.
It’s actually a first for the series, as 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot only shipping on a single Xbox 360 disc.
Naturally, the PS3 version will be shipping in its usual single-disc Blu-ray format, as Videogamer confirmed with Danger Close senior designer Ben Jones:
“It’s DVD format versus Blu-ray and you’re going to see that split at certain times, especially with the amount of content that we’re delivering.”
“Danger Close as a whole has spent a lot of time innovating and making great improvements to Frostbite 2, so we’re pretty happy with that. Our PS3 version of the game is solid, I think it looks great. We went in specifically… We’ve been testing on both of those platforms for at least a year on a daily basis, so we spent a lot of time tuning and testing.”
There’s also the possibility of an HD texture install, but an EA representative couldn’t allow Jones to confirm that feature. If the current generation of console stretches out into the next two years, expect that to become more and more common as higher-quality games stretch the limits of DVD storage capabilities.
