The Last Of Us

While the focus up until now has been on protagonists Joel and Ellie, The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog has started revealing more of the characters you’ll meet in the game.

Among those is Tess, a woman who Naughty Dog community strategist Eric Monecelli says is “strong, smart, and street savvy”. Her role in the the story of The Last of Us is that of Joel’s partner; the pair operate in the black market district of their home, where they are well known among the criminal underworld for being able to secure needed items and having the skills to get things done.

“Tess and Joel subscribe to the same dog-eat-dog philosophy,” Monecelli writes on the official PlayStation Blog. “They survive by being willing to do what others can’t or won’t. Her trust in and loyalty towards Joel runs deep. However, secretly, she questions whether Joel shares the same emotions that she feels for him.”

When playing The Last of Us, you might find yourself recognizing Tess’ voice—that’s because she’s played by Annie Wersching, who played FBI agent Renee Walker on 24.
