Mega Slowbro officially announced for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Posted on August 18, 2014 AT 04:03am

As expected, Nintendo has officially announced Mega Slowbro, the second leaked new Mega Evolution alongside Mega Audino—who was officially announced last week.

Early last week, the official Korean Pokémon website accidentally posted images of Mega Slowbro and Mega Audino, before quickly taking them back down. Mega Audino was officially announced late last week, so it was pretty much a given that Mega Slowbro would follow soon after.

“Mega Slowbro’s energy has gathered in the Shellder clamped onto its tail,” Nintendo explains. “As a result, the hardness of its shell is boosted, making an armor so hard that nothing and no one can scratch it. When Mega Slowbro battles, it stands up on its tail. It can move by bouncing along, using its tail as a spring.

“After Mega Evolving, its Shell Armor Ability means that opponents’ attacks will never land a critical hit. In terms of stats, its previously high Defense jumps still more, and its Sp. Attack also increases, making Mega Slowbro a great Pokémon for long, sticky battles that require endurance.”

Slowpoke can also evolve into Slowking when the Pokémon is traded while holding a King’s Rock, but there’s been no news on a Mega Slowking.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be available on Nintendo 3DS from November 21.
