Mercenaries 3 May Use Frostbite 2 Engine

THE BUZZ: Growing evidence suggest that Mercenaries 3 may be built on EA’s Frostbite 2 Engine. A NeoGAF member by the name of Nirolak unearthed some interesting details to build a case. While Pandemic Studios was shutdown in November 2009, EA wasted no time in announcing a new addition to the franchise was on its way via their team at EALA. Besides that announcement, Nirolak points at EA’s own job listing suggest they are looking for a level designer with experience and a, “desire to work with the Frostbite 2 toolset.”
While the evidence on its own doesn’t suggest much, when you put it together, as some fans have, this marriage may be a no brainer.
EGM’s TAKE: The Frostbite 2 Engine was created for realistic scenarios and beautiful explosions, both of which are needed to get the attention of gamers when this mediocre franchise reemerges. Surely EA wants to leverage its Frostbite 2 tech for as many games as possible, but we’re not sure what to make of this, is it wishful thinking by a few hardcore Mercenaries fans or is the use of the new Frostbite 2 Engine going to be so ubiquitous the team-up would be obvious?
