Mercenary Kings developer Tribute Games aims to have their side-scrolling shoot ‘em up out on PS4 by early 2014, according to a recent post on the studio’s official blog.
“As you’ve guessed it, Mercenary Kings will not be available for the 2013 calendar year,” reads the post. “We’re extremely grateful and excited about people asking for the game on PS4 or the completed version on Steam. I twas our hope to have it completed and in your hands for the holidays but the game is not in the shape it needs to be for its official, full release.
“As of this moment, the game is content-completed. Every level and bosses are done and we’re in the process of polishing it (sound FX, localization).”
According to Tribute, the game is running, but they want it to run “smoother” and are committed to delivering a strong multiplayer experience for both online and couch co-op modes.
“Given the scope of the game and the level of quality we’re aiming for, fixing glitches and bugs, and fine tuning details takes more time than we’re used to,” the post explains.
Mercenary Kings was first announced for PS4 during E3 2013. An early-access version is available now through Steam. The game mixes the run ’n’ gun gameplay of Metal Slug and Contra with RPG upgrade and crafting elements and Gears of War’s active reload system.
