Hideo Kojima has explained that Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection will not see a release on Xbox 360 as it is simply too big for the console.

Speaking in a recent episode of his radio show (translated by Kotaku) he explained that the major reason for the collection being a PlayStation 3 exclusive was Metal gear Solid 4. “I’m sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn’t being released, because an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 hasn’t gone on sale,” he explained. “To explain the situation, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous.”

According to Kojima, it would take seven DVD discs to port Metal gear Solid 4 to Xbox 360, which is simply unfeasible. “I want to put [The Legacy Collection] out,” he added, “but we won’t be releasing it.”

Kojima suggested that a release on Microsoft’s next generation console may be a possibility. “When it’s the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release [The Legacy Collection],” he said. “If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it’s not The Legacy Collection.”

The Legacy Collection will be available from June in Japan and includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 (includes Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition.
