Posted on November 4, 2013 AT 07:19am

Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will get a standalone release in spring 2014.

According to the publisher, Ground Zeroes will bridge the gap between previous Metal Gear Solid installments and The Phantom Pain. it features ”a large open environment, and missions where time of day and weather have a dynamic effect on the game and its missions.”

Boxed versions of Ground Zeroes will retail at £29.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while digital versions will set you back £19.99. Digital versions on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be priced at £29.99–there’s no word if a next-gen retail version will be offered.

“The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way,” said Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima. ”There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential.

“As such, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.”
