Hideo Kojima has revealed that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain originally had an 80’s movie filter, but it was removed due to performance issues.

Kojima revealed on Twitter that the development team created the filter as The Phantom Pain takes place in 1984. However, when they tried to fully implement the effect it slowed the system down and so had to be removed.

I would have had no problem with them implementing a filter, so long as they gave me the option to disable it (see Mass Effect). I purchased a next-gen console so I could enjoy high-end graphics, not to watch a movie from the 1980s.
