Metal Gear Solid V’s open-world design will allow for multiple mission solutions

Posted on March 14, 2014 AT 02:11pm

In the latest installment of Sony’s Conversations with Creators videos, series creator Hideo Kojima talks about Metal Gear Solid V’s open-world design, and what the PS4’s Share functionality brings to the table for the stealth-action franchise.

According to Kojima, The Phantom Pain’s open-world nature lends itself to multiple playthroughts and multiple playstyles, allowing gamers to tackle any given mission through a variety of means. Because of this, the father of Solid Snake hopes that players will utilize PS4’s built-in Share technology to upload videos of their approaches to show others different solutions to the same mission.

Kojima also discussed The Phantom Pain’s tablet and smartphone integration, which allows players to use a second-screen device to look at the in-game iDroid device. Of course, the iDroid can be viewed on-screen as well, but bringing it up, Kojima points out, does not interrupt gameplay, and as such players must be cautious when using it so’s to not be unprepared if caught by an enemy.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is still a ways off, with no definitive release date or window given yet. Its prologue, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes—a smaller, shorter introduction meant to help players learn the new systems and gameplay mechanics—launches on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360 next week, on March 18.
