Mew-Genics Designer Edmund McMillen Explains the Importance of Hoarding

Posted on December 2, 2013 AT 01:42pm

Hoarding furniture in Team Meat’s upcoming “cross between The Sims and PokemonMew-Genics will directly influence gameplay, designer Edmund McMillen revealed in his latest post on the game’s official blog.

According to McMillen, all furniture—purchased from Baby Jack’s “Hoarders R Us” store—in Mew-Genics possesses its own unique property. Clocks, for example, manipulate time, while healthy food increases HP, microwaves cause mutations. Cat stats and even money accumulated in-game are all influenced by the types of furniture.

Furniture can be purchased in a set of 10 items or independently, and comes in several sizes/states: large (such as tables and shelves, upon which other items to be placed), medium (piles of books, aquarium), small (candles, bobble heads), and wall decor. McMillen says that Team Meant currently has 650 “finished pieces of furniture in mewgenics, in the end the game will feature over 750.”

The designer also teased the existence of a magical cat that tap into a piece of furniture’s alternate form and properties.

Mew-Genics is set to launch on Windows PC, iOS, and Android devices sometime 2014.
