Microsoft has announced Age of Empires: Castle Siege, a new touch-based game for Windows 8 PCs and Windows Phone 8.
“Age of Empires: Castle Siege brings a fast-paced experience to touch-based screens while delivering all the strategy and combat Age of Empires is renowned for,” Microsoft explains. “Choose from one of several civilizations, expand your castle into a massive city, defend your walls against marauding empires and, when your newly trained army is ready, lay siege to other castles built by online opponents.”
Players can use the touch screen controls to draw paths for units to follow. The game features six civilizations from the Medieval Era, including Britons, Teutons and Kievan Rus, and tasks players with completing 10 historical battles, including the Siege of Marienburg and the Fall of Constantinople.
The game also supports cross-platform play between Windows 8 and Windows Phone users, and players can connect to Xbox Live via their Gamertag to access leaderboards.
Microsoft adds that the game “offers in-game purchases to accelerate gameplay.”
Age of Empires: Castle Siege is set to launch this September.
