Microsoft Announces New Limited Edition White Xbox 360 Slim

Posted on February 28, 2012 AT 01:53pm

THE BUZZ: Wanting to upgrade to an Xbox 360 Slim, but prefer that old-school look of the original white version? Microsoft has a new bundle just for you!

EGM’s TAKE: Video game hardware color is an interesting topic. Some people don’t care—while others, like me, strangely obsess over it. As ugly as I thought the original Xbox was, I really liked the look of the Xbox 360. It was sleek, it had a matte finish, and it was white—a nice contrast to the typical “electronics must be black” mentality.

Fast forward to the Xbox 360 Slim, and I really didn’t like the redesign. With the new look, new shape, and return to boring old black, it looked more like some new Alienware PC versus a reworked Xbox 360. Some people liked it, and I can dig that—but I always wondered if it wouldn’t look better white.

Well, now we get to decide that, as Microsoft announced the Xbox 360 Special Edition 4GB Kinect Family Bundle. Beyond being given one heck of a long name, this bundle will not only net you a new glossy white Xbox 360 Slim, but also a white Kinect sensor to go along with it. Then, to round out the package you’ll get for $299.99, it’ll include a copy of Kinect Sports, a copy of Kinect Adventures, and a wireless controller.

And yes, now I’m going to complain once again—I’d like it better if it were a matte finish versus being glossy. But I’m picky like that!

The Xbox 360 Special Edition 4GB Kinect Family Bundle has started shipping to retailers in the US and around the world today, and will be available in Europe and Brazil in the next few months.
