Microsoft Comments On Rumor That Next Xbox Will Be At E3
Posted on March 15, 2012 AT 12:52pm
THE BUZZ: Will we be seeing the reveal of the next Xbox at this year’s E3? Microsoft’s David Dennis may have provided us the answer.
EGM’s TAKE: From the Twitter account of Bloomberg News Tech Reporter Dina Mass comes this statement, which was emailed to her by Dennis.
“No new Xbox hardware to be shown/discussed at E3 or `anytime soon’. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360.”
Of course, there’s two ways to look at this: Microsoft doesn’t want to tip their hand before E3, so they say things like this—or, on the other end, the next Xbox really isn’t coming out next year (or would be doing so late next year).
Talk I’ve been hearing is that Microsoft’s next console will be hitting in 2014—not 2013. So, you have this year still be gung-ho for the Xbox 360, next E3 is the first reveal, and then 2014 the system hits. The truth is, Microsoft doesn’t need a next console just yet—the Xbox 360 sold 426,000 units in North America last month, which easily beat out all other platforms. The console is still selling amazingly well, so they could coast for another year before having to show their hand.
That, or that sneaky Dennis is just trying to throw us off the trail, and we’ll get our first glimpse at the next Xbox platform in a few months.
