Microsoft considering Xbox 360 emulation for Xbox One

Posted on April 7, 2014 AT 02:37am

Microsoft is looking into the possibility of creating an official emulator to run Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, partner development lead Frank Savage revealed during the Xbox One’s use of Windows technology panel at Microsoft’s Build developer conference.

When asked if there were any plans for an official Xbox 360 emulator, Savage replied: ”There are, but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately,” he said. “It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself.”

Sadly, Savage didn’t reveal any details regarding how the emulation would work. Whether it would allow users to simply stick their old Xbox 360 discs into Xbox One and play them, or if it would take the Sony approach with Gaikai and resell access to these older titles.
