Microsoft Creative Director Defends ‘Always Online’

Posted on April 5, 2013 AT 02:24am

In case you hadn’t realized people really hate the idea of Microsoft’s next generation console featuring “always online” technology, despite it only being rumors at the moment. So the last thing you want to do is to try to defend the idea.

Sadly nobody sent this memo to Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth who decided to try and fight the good fight on Twitter. ”Sorry, I don’t get the drama around having an ‘always online’ console,” he started by saying. ”Every device now is ‘always on’. That’s the world we live in. #dealwithit.”

BioWare designer Manveer Heir stepped in and asked if the always on issues of Diablo III and SimCity had taught him anything he replied with, ”electricity goes out, too.”

When it was suggested that the Internet isn’t reliable in all parts of the U.S. let along the rest of the world he replied, ”Why on earth would I live there?”

This set of responses has led to Orth protecting his Twitter account to prevent any further backlash. A lesson has been learnt here, never poke the angry gamer bear. If you’re interested, a Reddit user managed to snap a screen of part of the conversation which you can check out here.

Also, before anyone starts jumping to conclusions, these are just the off-hand comments of Microsoft’s creative director and are by no means a confirmation that the Next Xbox will feature always online technology.

Would you truly be unhappy if the Next Xbox featured always on technology? Share your thoughts below.
