Microsoft Details Microsoft Point Phase Out Plans

Microsoft confirmed during its E3 press conference yesterday that it will be phasing out Microsoft Points in favor of a real-currency system later this year, the platform holder has now shared a few details about how it will do this.

The switch over will take place this fall, according to a new FAQ, however players can still register Microsoft Point card codes ”through 2014 and for a limited time thereafter.” When the change occurs all Microsoft Points balances will be converted to real-money, although the actual conversion values are yet to be announced.

“To make this a seamless and positive experience for our customers, we have considered many factors to ensure that the amount deposited in your Microsoft account will be of equal or greater marketplace value than your Microsoft Points,” the company said.

Any Microsoft Points cards that are redeemed after the switch over will be automatically converted into real-money. Players can of course just use their debit or credit cards for transactions after the switch, to save any hassle.
