Microsoft Files Claim to Secure Xbox One Domains From U.K. Resident

Microsoft had to be very careful when securing domains for the Xbox One to ensure that the name didn’t leak before the reveal. Now it has decided to secure Xboxone.com and Xboxone.net from a resident in the United Kingdom.

The company has filed a dispute (via Fusible) with the National Arbitration Forum–a company that resolves issues with domain squatting and copyright infringing URLs–to gain control of the two domains. To be successful Microsoft must prove that the domains are similar or can be confused with a trademark it owns, or that the person who owns the domains has no right to the name–I don’t think that it will really struggle.

A new patent filed by Microsoft has recently come to light which would allow the company to create an Achievement-style system for watching television shows; you can read all the details here. Also why not check out Eric L. Patterson’s discussion with Xbox corporate vice president Ben Kilgore about the design of the Xbox One.
