Microsoft Flight Coming This Spring, Free to Download

THE BUZZ: For fans of Microsoft’s legendary Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise, the company is returning to the skies with Microsoft Flight—and boarding tickets won’t cost you a penny.
While the actual Microsoft Flight Simulator series—and its development team—are long gone, Microsoft Flight looks to hopefully bring back some of that fun. The main portion of the game will be free to play, but players will then be able to add extra content to the game via paid downloads.
As well, by connecting to the game through a Games for Windows Live account, you’ll receive additional planes, missions, have access to achievements, and more.

EGM’s TAKE: The question now, of course, is with Microsoft Flight being (essentially) a free-to-play game, how much of the feeling and experience that people loved from Microsoft Flight Simulation will it bring along with it?
It’s a good question about the potential—or perils—of free-to-play games. Microsoft Flight might now only exist because free-to-play is a realistic option, which would be a good thing—but could the move to such a structure mean that it won’t be anywhere near as complex or detailed as it would have been as a standard retail release?
