Microsoft Looking to Enable Xbox One Digital Game Trading and Family Sharing in the Future

Posted on September 5, 2013 AT 02:22am

Xbox director Albert Penello has revealed that Microsoft is hoping to enable digital game trading on Xbox One in the future, after being forced to put the feature on the back burner following the console’s DRM changes.

Penello told GameSpot that digital game trading ”has to be part of the experience.” When asked about the feature he replied, ”That was one of the places that we were actually trying to pioneer. We were trying to implement the ability to trade [and] loan digital games with your friends which is something that no one else was doing.”

The family sharing program allowed Xbox One players to designate up to ten family members who could access their game library.

“I think we need to do that. That has to be part of the experience,” he added. ”Right now, we’re focused on launch and we switched the program back to discs, because that’s what customers wanted.

“I get a lot of mails saying ‘god, please bring back the family sharing.’ We’d love to figure out how to bring that back. I still think it was a good idea. Maybe it was a little too soon for some people, but I still think there were a lot of good ideas in there. And we’ll bring it back when the time is right.”
