Microsoft has secured the rights to two Xbox 8 domains, hinting at a possible name for the platform holder’s next-generation console.
It won two disputes filed in May with the National Arbitration Forum over domains owned by Chinese resident Cheng Juan, according to Fusible. Microsoft now owns XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com, XboxLiveTV.com, XboxCompanion.com, Xbox8.us, and Xbox8.org.
These new domains have fueled speculation that this could be the name of the next-generation Xbox console. The major thinking behind this is the impending launch of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, perhaps Microsoft plans to move the Xbox under this umbrella also. Another school of thought is that the 8 is actually an infinity symbol and the console will be known as Xbox Infinity.
Of course acquiring these domains could just be a defensive measure taken by Microsoft in case they decide to use them in the future.
What do you think of the name Xbox 8?
