Microsoft: Stand Xbox One Vertically at Your Own Risk

Posted on September 20, 2013 AT 04:20am

The Xbox One is not designed to stand vertically and doing so could cause issues, according to Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox.

“We don’t support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk,” he told GameSpot. “It wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.”

Panello added, ”We found, interestingly enough, that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [360] horizontally.”

The Xbox One is scheduled to release November 22, 2013 in North America and most European markets. Remaining European markets, Japan, and other “tier 2″ markets will get the console in 2014.
