THE BUZZ: As part of the recent flood of major gaming releases, next week will see the release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

To honor the game’s release—as well as Halo‘s 10th anniversary—13 Microsoft Stores around the U.S. will be hosting special events. Starting at 10pm local time on Monday, November 14th, Halo fans will be able to participated in special team deathmatch games while “fueled with free Monster Energy drinks, pizza and friendly competition.” By participating in these tournaments, players will have the chance to win a limited-edition Halo: Anniversary Xbox 360 console skin, along with “other special prizes”.

The first 100 fans to show up at each store will receive special Halo-related items, such as posters and “Red or Blue team identifier(s)”. As well, the first 100 people to buy Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will receive a limited-edition Grunt plushie, and any customers who pre-orders the game at Microsoft Stores will also receive a $25 gift card toward future purchases.

• Los Angeles, California (Westfield Century City) - Special appearance by “Halo” franchise development director Frank O’Connor and the 343 team
• Mission Viejo, California (The Shops at Mission Viejo)
• Oak Brook, Illinois (Oakbrook Center)
• San Diego, California (Fashion Valley Mall)
• Santa Clara, California (Westfield Valley Fair)
• Scottsdale, Arizona (Scottsdale Fashion Square)
• Seattle, Washington (University Village) - Special appearance by “Halo: Anniversary” executive producer Dan Ayoub, community manager BS Angel and the 343 team

EGM’s TAKE: In all seriousness—I didn’t even know Microsoft Stores were a thing that actually existed. But hey, cool to see Microsoft using their retail spaces for events like this.
